ASUU Suspends Work Over Salary Delay

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, has directed its members nationwide to suspend academic activities over the federal government’s delay in paying June 2025 salaries. The decision, enforced under ASUU’s “No Pay, No Work” policy, requires lecturers to withdraw their services if salaries are delayed beyond the third day of the month.

ASUU President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, confirmed the action yesterday, stating it aligns with a National Executive Council NEC resolution, He blamed the persistent salary delays on the government’s failure to address issues arising from the migration of university payroll from IPPIS to the GIFMIS platform. Despite meetings with education authorities and the Accountant General, Piwuna said no solution has been provided.

He emphasized that the delays are not due to technical faults with the payment platform but result from deliberate withholding of funds by government officials. Noting that ASUU is also demanding the release of the remaining N10 billion in Earned Academic Allowances, warning of possible escalations if the payment is not made.

However At the University of Jos, ASUU branch chairman Jurbe Molwus confirmed the suspension of academic duties and said strike monitoring teams have been activated to ensure full compliance until the salary issue is resolved.
