The United States has praised Mali for its resilience against terrorism and extremist threats, with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio highlighting the country’s determination in a message marking Mali’s 65th independence anniversary.

Rubio reaffirmed America’s commitment to partnership, including cooperation on commercial opportunities and intelligence sharing to counter Islamist extremists in West Africa.

Newmen gathered that Mali’s transitional government, led by General Assimi Goïta, remains in power until at least 2030 and has strengthened ties with Russia while pulling out of ECOWAS.

Relations with France, however, have deteriorated following spying allegations that led to the expulsion of French diplomats and the suspension of counterterrorism cooperation.
