FG Sets 16 as Admission Age Limit

The Federal Government has reaffirmed 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, warning that the policy is final and non-negotiable.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the announcement today, at the opening of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB, Policy Meeting in Abuja. He warned that any admissions conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System CAPS, will be considered illegal.

Alausa also cautioned that heads of institutions involved in admission malpractices, including bypassing CAPS or admitting underage candidates, will face prosecution.

The minister further emphasized the need for strict adherence to admission guidelines to uphold transparency and accountability in the education sector.
