Falana Slams Early 2027 Campaigns as Illegal

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has criticized the ongoing early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing them as unlawful and a distraction from the responsibilities of governance.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Falana said the premature campaigns violate the provisions of the Electoral Act. He stressed that Nigeria’s legal framework does not allow political campaigning years ahead of an election and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take immediate action.

He added that unless the Electoral Act is amended through proper legislative channels, politicians must adhere strictly to the existing campaign timelines.

Falana also called on the media to promote adherence to the law by discouraging unlawful political activity and holding public officeholders accountable for compliance.
