Kwara Allocates N20b to Upgrade Schools

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a N20 billion allocation in the supplementary budget to enhance school infrastructure across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who said the funds will support the immediate commencement of new construction and renovation projects. These efforts build upon the administration’s earlier upgrades of over 1,254 classrooms since 2019, under a renewed partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

According to Olohungbebe, the new funding will target schools with inadequate classrooms, outdated facilities, and poor sanitation. It will also provide for laboratories and other critical infrastructure in line with the state’s KwaraLEARN education reform initiative.

The commissioner noted that while the government has made significant progress through previous SUBEB-UBEC interventions—some dating back to 2014—gaps still remain. “This special intervention will further close those gaps and modernize learning environments across the state,” he added.
