Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has restated his commitment to serving only one term if elected President of Nigeria. He said a four-year tenure is sufficient to make meaningful progress if leadership is guided by sincerity and service, not personal ambition.
Obi made the remarks via his official X handle today, expressing surprise at the public debate sparked by his pledge. He insisted that transformative leadership is possible within a single term, provided there is a clear focus on national development.
The former Anambra State governor also defended his political record, stating he has never been involved in electoral malpractice or political violence. He challenged anyone to verify his past campaigns, maintaining that his approach has always been peaceful and principled.
Highlighting his priorities, Obi said his administration would tackle corruption, prioritize education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and ensure the rule of law. He criticized recent government spending, including on presidential jets, arguing such funds should be redirected to critical sectors.
