The Kwara State Government has called on the Igbaja community to support the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up project, aimed at promoting social inclusion, women’s empowerment and reducing economic vulnerability among women in the state.
The appeal was made on Thursday by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, during an advocacy visit to the palace of the Elese of Igbaja, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hammed Awuni Babalola Arepo III.
Represented by the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply in the ministry, Alhaji Rasheed Ubandawaki, the commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to initiatives that uplift women, strengthen communities and improve livelihoods.
She urged the traditional ruler to use his influence to mobilise women in Igbaja to actively participate in the programme, noting that the project would improve access to financial services and support sustainable income-generating activities.
The commissioner also commended the monarch for sustaining peace and unity in the community, assuring him of the government’s resolve to enhance household welfare and productive economic engagement through the project.
The State Project Coordinator, Hajia Medinat Idris, explained that the initiative is a Federal Government programme supported by the Kwara State Government and implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
She said the project is expected to boost household income, improve family harmony, enhance quality of life and accelerate community and state-wide development.
In his response, the Elese of Igbaja praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts to improve women’s livelihoods and urged implementing agencies to ensure the programme achieves its objectives across the state.
