Oshiomhole Demands Mele Kyari’s Arrest Over Alleged Fraud

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called for the immediate arrest of former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, over allegations of corruption and financial misconduct during his tenure.

Speaking during a Senate committee session on Wednesday, Oshiomhole accused Kyari of failing to account for trillions of naira allegedly mismanaged while he headed the state-owned oil company.

The former Edo State governor urged the committee to invoke its constitutional powers and issue a warrant of arrest without delay.

“Mr. Chairman, this committee must have the courage and the will to deploy its powers as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and issue a warrant, not tomorrow but today,” Oshiomhole said.

He alleged that serious concerns had been raised by auditors over unaccounted revenue at a time when the country continues to rely heavily on borrowing.

According to him, Kyari must personally appear before the committee and cannot be represented by another official since he is no longer in office.

“Mele Kyari cannot be represented by another person. He is no longer the managing director, and it is his responsibility to account for his actions as MD,” he added.

Oshiomhole also questioned the source of funds used for Kyari’s medical treatment abroad, insisting that public officials must be held accountable for their actions while in office.

He further called for the arrest of both past and present NNPCL leadership, accusing them of disregarding constitutional oversight responsibilities and failing to account for revenues generated by the oil sector.
