Makinde Declares Work-Free Day for Islamic New Year

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared Tuesday a work-free day across the state to mark the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448AH

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, on behalf of the government.

Governor Makinde also congratulated Muslims in Oyo State and across Nigeria on the commencement of the new Islamic calendar year, urging them to reflect on the values of peace, unity and sacrifice associated with the occasion.

He called on the Muslim faithful to use the celebration as an opportunity to pray for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Oyo State and the country at large.

The governor further urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious throughout the celebration period. He advised citizens to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies or through the state’s emergency response line, 615.

The work-free day is intended to allow Muslim faithful and other residents to observe and participate in activities marking the beginning of the new Islamic year.
