The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they said is battling stage-four cancer.
Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with experience in cancer treatment to help their father access further care.
Lima said the actor’s condition had deteriorated and that hospitals had reportedly declined to continue treating him. She said the family was seeking medical assistance and was not asking for financial donations.
“We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she said, appealing to anyone who could connect the family with a hospital or medical professional willing to take on his case.
Lima said the family only became aware of the seriousness of Hassan’s condition about three weeks ago, adding that his appearance had not initially suggested the severity of his illness.
In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and said a hospital had informed the family that it could no longer administer chemotherapy.
She appealed to anyone capable of providing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, to contact the family. She also acknowledged the support of Senator Yayi, whom she said had been helping the family with medical bills.
Both daughters stressed that their appeal was for treatment rather than financial assistance. Kira became emotional while describing her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him experience such pain and that he had expressed fear of dying.
Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry whose career spans more than four decades. He has appeared in more than 300 films and remains one of the prominent figures in Yoruba cinema.
As of the time of filing this report, Hassan’s management and family had not issued an official statement providing further details about his diagnosis, the hospital treating him or the specific type of cancer.
